Dawn Service Anzac Day by maggiemae

Dawn Service Anzac Day

It started at 6.30am. At 6.32, I woke up suddenly, swore, got dressed and was down here at 6.40am!
Nice to see the hundreds gathering here to remember those fallen in World War 1.

Three good things;
1. I didn't put my trousers on back to front in the dark but did put shoes on the wrong feet - or was it the wrong shoes on the right feet?
2. Most of these young men aged around 19 who gave their lives, will never be forgotten because of Anzac Day
3. My skipping is getting better! John reminded me of "Salt, vinegar, mustard then pepper" On 'pepper' you are supposed to do a double! If I did a double, I would be flat on my face!
Great picture and memory. Lovely sky. Good skipping!!

Why so early I am wondering...no matter this early start has made a wonderful moving photo.....the darkness & all the people ...young ones mostly I see......standing respectfully to honour the dead...has to be a fave for me.

Talking of skipping I have fallen by the way side big time.....not done any for 3 weeks....will get the rope out again tomorrow!

very fitting words and a lovely photo Maggie. Might work in mono to give it a more sombre feel and take away the orange hues of the street lights

Wow, you move fast, Maggiemae. What a wonderful shot and way to remember those fallen in WW1.

@phil_howcroft Actually sepia looks very good with this photo but I did love the deep blue of the sky at this time.

Cool shot

Love this colour and glow !-- I feel that b/w would give it such a flat dead image -- while this gives us a glow of togetherness in the remembering

@vskolnik thanks for your comment, Vee! My back is fine now but I have to caution my knees when skipping and make them behave!

Wonderful light and colour in this moving photograph. Glad you were able to get there so quickly.

This is moving. Sad how many generations later the effect of the loss lingers. My family lost a couple and my grandfather was blinded by mustard gas and sent home, not realizing at the time that that made him one of the lucky ones
April 26th, 2014
Wonderful to see so many remembering...glad you didn't miss it.

I am glad they do this each year. And speaking of skipping, I thought you meant the forward movement type kids do instead of running. If you think of that gait, it si really quite weird. In my class, I have this Korean girl who is learning Englsh....She was reading this book and two kids got in trouble for skipping...class. But she thought it meant skipping la la la la down the hall. I told her "Not in Middle school, honey!I think they skipped class. " Haha Then I told her it is also called 'cutting class" which she thought was even worse.
April 28th, 2014
@espyetta I don't think I could do that forward movement skipping again! Your story made me smile!
