Yet another ‘last rose of summer’! In actual fact it’s winter and I amazed at the fortitude of a few roses! I should be pruning in July but there are still some buds out there!
Three good things;
1. I could have gotten up on the roof to take a photo of some snow clad mountains with the early pink light shining on them,… but didn’t… it was a bit early!
2. Seeing the 4th July with fireworks from so many friends!
3. I was relieved at the snail mail from the Police to John - he had been photographed doing 60km in an 50km zone and the fine wasn’t as big as we anticipated. Maybe I should ask the Police if they want to join 365!
yes! ask the police to join 365! might give a ticket to those doing excessive etsooi! the shot is rather dark in my screen but seeing the petals made me think indeed of wings. well done!
They do look like two wings....... Beautifully fresh looking rose! Glad about a Johns fine ....does he get points on his licence too? Mr Man teaching him bad habits!
Not to be too critical, but it is a bit dark. It's hard to make out detail, although I see some color on the larger petals. If I want a black background of something, I would take it in pitch black with the flash focused on the subject. I also have some stiff poster board that I use for black backdrops as well. I don't mean to sound mean or disruptive, but I bet if you shot with the flash in pitch black, the color would really pop. I do like the perspective because I see that it's being taken from above. I hope that ticket wasn't a fortune! I have heard of people getting tickets in the mail before, but I have never gotten one. We usually have police cars hiding in parking lots and I know where they sit so I go the limit while others wind up getting pulled over and get the ticket.
@prttblues thanks Bev, I really appreciate what you say! I would be interested to try what you recommend and will try it next time I have a lovely rose like this one!
This is really a stunning composition, but like Bev, I wish it were a tad lighter to see the details of the petals a little more. It's so striking against the black and makes a strong low-key shot for the idea of last rose. I thought it might just be my computer showing it so dark, though, given the other comments.
Very striking against the dark background. #3 -- too funny, glad the fine was small. My hubby just got a ticket for running a red light to the tune $262, and he didn't even run a red light. He moved over to the green light lane safely, but it was an illegal lane change. They need to take photos like your guys :-) Hmmmm, I always think of all I can buy with that money when something like that happens.
Nice shot! I always enjoy your list of 3 Good Things and today's had me chuckling at #3. I wonder what would happen if you paid the fine and then asked them if they'd like to join...
