Smoke in the valley by maggiemae

Smoke in the valley

Early morning scene from our kitchen window. I seem to be doing a lot of dark photos lately but am still challenging myself for a real photo per day even if I am rushed.

Three good things:
1. Getting to know the exchange rate in euros and US dollars pretty fast.
2. Bought a gorgeous summery dressing gown with lots of lace for $10 in the Hospice shop.
3. Finding out about several cameras (not going DSIL)
love the smokey chimneys

Creates a great atmosphere, very few houses here still burn wood for heating.

Beautiful shot. The smoke, the dark colors and the small punch of color makes this a special photo.

Great shot, Maggiemae. That's such a lovely view. Stunning the way the sun shines through the clouds in the distance. Very cool.

Your misty just coming light shot is really compelling to look at. I can just imagine you looking out of the window waiting for the kettle to boil for that first cup of tea...love those smoking chimneys! Beautiful layers & a great edit!

@happypat Early wakenings for you, Pat! One thing - we don't have a kettle - installed a boiling tap on the central bench and its always on tap at boiling point! So handy! So more time to stand and stare!

@tonydebont So many people burn wood here in NZ but what is encouraged actively is that it should be dry wood, Tony!

@prttblues Sometimes it takes a photograph to realise that we do have a lovely view, Bev! You know the old saying, "familiarity breeds contempt!"

Cool shot- the clouds look like mountains and fire.

Such a great shot, Maggiemae. Love your three things a day. I am looking for a new camera as well and not a DSLR. Great price for a dress, love thrift store shopping.

@darsphotos It pays to know what one really wants in a camera I think, Darlene. I don't want to lug stuff around but want the ability to use manual the way I want! I'm going for a good compact - Olympus Stylus 1 seems to be the best from my research.
July 10th, 2014
@maggiemae I have been searching for a while as you know and with my camera getting worse, I have to find something soon. I have the same issue as you, I do not want to lug a lot with me but want a good camera. Thank you for saying what you are looking at. I will have to check it out. I got a lot of input from others on 365 and have watched to see how photos look and have based it on that along with my sons input.

You have a lovely outlook from your window and this dawn view has lovely dark and smoky tones that add mystery to the familiar. I am playing catch up with my comments today, but I do appreciate your regular feedback so much.
