Taken from three miles away at a viewing point. Using my magnificent zoom and steadying it on a pillar.
Three good things:
1. We got here! From Caspar it was just wide open desert like territory and the road snaked on ahead of us for miles and miles. Then these mountains arrived and the road was very narrow and winding and went on for miles and miles!
2. Getting a great photo of the swallows!
3. Trying for and getting a better room in the hotel - the first one was like a cave! We are not swallows!
4. Watching a lady polishing her fancy Harley for ages!
You must be having great fun seeing all these new sights........fantastic photo maggiemae , you did well with the steadying! I can't begin to think of the work in that sculpture!
magnificent shot! i love the composition and the crispiness of the images. every time i see this mt. rushmore sculpture i can't help but think of the superman movie! :-)
Fantastic shot of the presidents, Maggimae. You can make out the detail perfectly. I like that your 3 things adds up to 4. Glad you got to switch rooms!
@eyesmile Thank you Gena! Yes the room was much better with a side view of the presidents if you hung out over the balcony! Not as good as this shot though!
@happypat Thanks Pat - It took 14 years and 400 men to carve the mountain. Despite harsh and dangerous conditions, no one died during the project! It is all documented in granite!
So jealous! I love Custer, SD (just down the road from there). Is this Iron Mountain Road. I have a bunch of similar shots from years ago. Before we had our daughter, we used to ride our motorcycle out to South Dakota every summer. Enjoy!
Perfect comoposition framing it with the trees as evidenced by the appearance on the PP with it! I have never seen this presented this way! Awesome shot!
great shot!
I just read that you have been posting photos of Sturgis so I want to have a look! My boss, an attorney with a wild side, used to go and bring me t-shirts and tell me crazy stories about Sturgis!
Of all the pics I have seen of this place, never have seen this vantage point. I LIKE it! fav I was there as a child..my family drove out and all over the west twice when I was young. That movie "North by Northeast" (I think that is the one) features this mountain.
