On the road to Dunedin and travelling over the coastal hill road just above Port Chalmers is this monster anchor. The "Nine Fathom Foul", a large iron anchor that fouled many local fishermen's nets until hauled ashore in 1978. Around this area there are broods of hens and roosters running wild. Further up the hill there was another big brood scrabbling around on the side of the road. At one time the numbers got fewer as some of the foreign dwellers in this region considered them as free takeaways.
Three good things:
1.Able to stop for a great lunch at a dear little old pub on the waterfront.
2. Able to walk to the great Forsyth Barr Stadium where the rugby was held - a noisy affair with a lot of the students here on orientation week.
3. Able to shut the windows in our hotel to dull the noise of these rowdy and boisterous students still going at 1am! There were gunshots at 3am which was disturbing and a car alarm went on, off then on again at 4am!
What a gorgeous capture - beautiful background hills with the super old anchor towards the fore ground and then the photo popper -- the beautiful little hen pecking away in the foreground -- Jist love the whole concept ! A fav
This is such an unusual and lovely sight. Great color. Love that chicken in the shot and the little shot of red of the house roof.... Fav for unusual aspect, color, and interest.
I always like clearer shots too. But in the case you have here I think the back ground make the subject stand out better, and we can still make out things in the background. It is interesting to see shots of New Zealand, It's been nearly 50 years now but my folks almost moved us down there. I've always wondered what life would have been like had that happened.
Beautiful capture with that hen in the foreground. Are you at a party town?!! Sure sounds like it is quite rowdy.....we were not that disturbed even in NYC!
