Oamaru breakwater seen from the solidly built Holmes Wharf where we walked in the sun. Beside us tied up was a yacht that looked like the wreck of the Hesperus! It had patched holes in the hull, handrails were obviously ripped off, nobody on board but it floated!
Three good things:
1. Google to find an intriguing story about this yacht and my FB photo brought out more history of a tragic race 60 years ago!
2. A chocolate eclair from the Farmer's Market eaten in a nearby seaside cafe. The creamy custard like filling squeezed out and went all over the place when the eclair was bitten in to.
3. Whisky tasting at 12pm in Oamaru.
@gijsje Someone said it was sunk in Llyttleton Harbour and now refloated and brought back to Oamaru. Another thought it was an Oamaru boat that survived a tragic boat race in 1951 where two boats were lost and all aboard were lost!
I'm wondering is she is going to climb that structure to turn the light on? 2 and 3 would be my choice too. Number 1 is a bit scary for me at the moment with number 1 son currently sailing to Fiji, fingers crossed for fair sailing weather.
@kiwinanna I do sympathise with you with son's adventure! They will do this sort of thing. You just have to try and not think to deeply about it and imagine things that might never happen. This light is automatic and in good weather, people can walk along this breakwater!
