Paper Whites by maggiemae

Paper Whites

Just outside the front door, these bulbs come through late in winter. Wonderful scent and very tough! Frosts a few times this week and now rain and snow!

I have used a painting process lightly to get this effect.

Three good things:

1. Every day someone is turning a year older - good or bad?
2. John put special strips underneath rugs to keep them from going on unwelcome walks!
3. I vacuumed the leaves out of the garage carpets! Felt so good!
They are pretty and have such a lovely smell..

These flowers look so elegant ....would be wonderful for a wedding! Love those large pointy petals! Good for John.....slippy rugs are so dangerous!
August 7th, 2015
@happypat I was very close to them, Pat - they are really very tiny - about the size o a thimble - you would know that size!

Such pretty flowers and great to have a good scent in the winter, nice processing, suits it well.

A stunning picture love the background showing of these beautiful flowers

TurnIng a year older must be good if you consider the alternative!
August 7th, 2015
@jennywren Well one can hardly turn younger unfortunately but I know what you mean.
August 7th, 2015
@snowy That's our front door on the back right, Diana and a brick wall both gone abstract. Thanks for your nice comment!

Must be so lovely to see these pretty, cheerful flowers in winter.

These are gorgeous! Love your processing. Instant fav!

Now about that growing older good ages 1 thru 21 from 21 onward not so good. Although I never minded much till I reached 70.

So pretty, and such a lovely way to show them off.
August 7th, 2015
@janiskay I thought 50 was pretty old - once! Now I've passed 70, I think 90 is pretty old! Thanks for your fav, Janice!

These are gorgeous and your processing really shows them well. I have double sided tape under the long rug in my hall to stop it moving on the laminate floor. It has worked well and finally the rug stops going for a walk!

Pretty! Love the processing.
August 8th, 2015
I love the processing. It's awesome. I have a painting plugin for photoshop so I must start playing with it.
August 8th, 2015
@k1w1 Well your one would be much better being photoshop! Mine is just be funky.
August 8th, 2015
Very pretty- they look like a cross between a star and a daffodil.
August 8th, 2015
@olivetreeann They are a narcissi Ann so related to the daffodil but very tiny and intensely fragrant!
August 8th, 2015
@maggiemae Wish you could bottle some of that up and send it to me! Sounds lovely.
August 8th, 2015
Cool processing! Well done!
August 8th, 2015
These look so pretty, and you've done a nice processing job with the background.
August 8th, 2015
Very pretty and love the processing!! They really do look like they are made of paper!! Nice capture!!!

Lovely image, light, composition
August 8th, 2015
Love the effect....lovely! It has almost felt like fall here...but I am sure we are in for at least one more round of heat.
August 8th, 2015
These are beautiful Maggie. love the fact that they are all white. The ones we have are similar but have yellow trumpets. As for getting a year older I'm rather going off the idea:-)
August 8th, 2015
@thistle I think thats why they are called Paper Whites. No yellow at all. I do agree that's one 's mind should not focus on whether you can get out of that chair in one piece but totally on what photo is coming up!

Lovely shot.
August 8th, 2015
Your flowers look very pretty and I love your processing. I google them and found out that they're suppose to be very hardy. wonder if they would overwinter in our climate where the winters can be very harsh.
our lilies did. will have to see if I can buy some seeds. fav. for the picture and your lovely processing.
August 8th, 2015
So beautiful and they look so delicate. Judging by your comments tho they seem rather hardy - very deceptive.
August 8th, 2015
Gorgeous flowers. Gorgeous processing.
August 8th, 2015
This is really lovely, with beautiful processing. Fav for me, and a reminder that spring is coming where you are, just as autumn is coming where we are. Both provide great photography opportunities.
August 8th, 2015
So lovely and your processing just makes them even more beautiful. They go nicely with your snow!
August 9th, 2015
Pretty flowers, nice exposure of the whites.
August 9th, 2015
Nicely done, Maggie. We don't age in yearly chunks… its a continuous nano second by nano second process and it applies to everyone from the moment of birth until death. And it's a good thing otherwise there'd be no room for new life! Well, you did ask! :-)
August 9th, 2015
Nice processing! Does look very painterly.
August 10th, 2015
Although I like winter, it's still good to see these little hints of spring.
August 10th, 2015
Lovely processing on these beautiful flowers, Maggiemae! I can almost smell them from here! Yes, I am turning a year older in less than a week, and I cannot decide if I should be excited or dismayed.... at least I think I am getting a new lens for the occasion!
