Leading on from the photo of me looking as if I’d picked some flowers for a funeral - well - a phone call was taken later in the day from a friend who asked me to take a flower to a grave, my older sister, who died last year, aged 94. So there wasI trekking through this old and interesting cemetery with a bought and perfect pink rose!
Needless to say I took photographs! This group of gravestones were interesting. I used a water colour setting on my camera for this one.
Three good things;
1. The word interesting…. I use it a lot on 365 and yesterday so did a number of my friends about my sky processing. Dictionary says.."arousing curiosity or interest; holding or catching the attention.” And that has to be good!
2. Wandering through an old (but not ancient) cemetery I can feel the stories around me that have never been told. Family has shifted, died, no longer visits, even cares! i wish I could unlock the history.
Very strange effects your processing gives to this graveyard. I can see different shapes all over this photo.....a monster here, a couple of people chatting to the right two, people with red scarves...I could go on. A very unusual shot indeed Maggiemae.
@happypat Yes its quite unreal really- I wanted to put my own stamp on what I saw and this processing appealed to me rather than leave it natural. The rebellious side of me!
Well this is a very interesting effect I have to say!! I had to keep looking to make sure what I was seeing. It's funny I knew it was your shot before I scrolled down to your name!! I love wandering through old cemeteries checking out all the names.
the way you had processed it makes it look quite other-worldly. other people have problems photographing cemeteries, i like it though. as you wrote, it's stories gone untold.
The effect is very dreamy- or like a murky memory- very appropriate for the thoughts you've expressed as you walk through the cemetery. I think that way too- what were the stories? Does anyone remember these people? And I always feel a bit of sorrow for the ones where the name has eroded with time. Will there names be forgotten forever now that no one can read it on the tombstone? Good shot!
@olivetreeann You can telll when the husband and father dies first, the mother and wife follow then the son or daughter - all on the gravestone! Does anyone know them? Sometimes the husband or wife dies very soon after the first which is sad to think of them being heartbroken!
@maggiemae And then there are the little children who die only a few months old. What a heartbreak that must have been. We forget that it was not too long ago when children were that vulnerable. I think of it more now that I have 5 healthy grandchildren!
So pleased to know that I'm not the only one who loves wandering around cemeteries. Very funky processing - I had to check to see if I had put on my old specs again! Lol
I really like your processing on this one....seems very appropriate for a cemetery full of memories! Everything seems to be melting away and disappearing into the earth, just like our memories of our loved ones over time!
This water colour setting has definitely made an Interesting shot! The light and shadows give the grave stones a life, not just flat stones. Quite a lot of different shapes there too.
Graveyards are fascinating. I love. Wandering through them. Three of my father's brothers married three sisters and in two of the cases when the husband died the wife died within three months. I often wonder what future graveyard wanderers will make of those gravestones. Back to the shot. It is interesting!
