Relentless Waves by maggiemae

Relentless Waves

Taking time to prepare for an early morning flight to Auckland we stayed in Dunedin for the night. The wind was freezing and I just about made it back to our apartment after this walk. This is the scene I saw looking along the beach to the old piles, some of which have gone to the sea’s devastating forces!

Three good things;
1. I love the furious sound of the waves - just love it!
2. I’d have to say FB gives me a laugh a day!
What automatically brings a smile to your face? 3. Music does to me!
i love the sound of the waves as they hit the shore. nothing more calming. and your witty remarks and comments, always, always automatically bring a smile to my face. ;-)

I too love the sounds of the waves. In fact when I do sleep I have a machine that is close to replicating the sounds of ocean waves. FB gives me at least one laugh a day. Small kids, babies and animals are automatic smiles for me. This pic takes me back to times I have been on a coast.

Children's laughter. What excites me is a wetland full of birds. I too love the sound of waves.

Love the noise pebbles make as they get dragged about by the waves. What makes me smile? Watching wildlife, and driving out on my mini with her roof down!

Lovely pic!!

Lovely shot. I also love the sound of waves, in fact I like the sound of any water - except a dripping tap :)
August 13th, 2015
These are some powerful waves... they make a wonderful sound, I agree. Looks like quite the wild coastline... beautiful!

For a winter sea this is so blue. Our seaside waves are grey, nearly black in the winter months in bad weather, I like all the sounds that the waves make. The gentle lapping is peaceful.

Yes there is something very soothing about the crashing of waves.. great shot of St Clair.. though looks a bit bleak..
August 13th, 2015
No. 3 yes music makes me smile, or feel happy.
August 13th, 2015
Great capture, composition

Definitely the sound, smell and sheer force of the sea. I'm happy living about 8 miles from the coast but I love walking along it.,The windier the better as long as it's not gale force. I love this shot fav

I love the layers in this -- the community just visible and the wonderful cliffs and sea dominating.

I hate the sound of the waves....the sea frightens me. OK in the daytime but when we stay at the beach house on the Coromandal I can hear the waves & I find it very unsettling. Interesting to see you fly from Dunedin rather tha Christchurch! This sea does look lovely ....beautiful turquoise colour & I am wondering what the small row of colour is in the top left hand side?
August 13th, 2015
Fascinating image with some great color! the sea seems to soothe lots of people. could it be because we are about 57% water?

That's what I wanted to ask. The small row of colour intrigues me too. Lovely sea view. What brings a smile to my face? Some comments of certain 365 ers; remarks of my grandchildren, proudly told to me by their parents, etc.

Lovely scene and capture. Love the sound of the sea, just as well as it is at the bottom of our road, and a mountain behind us.This is what makes me smile and dare I say it - flowers.
August 13th, 2015
@happypat I haven't a clue what this colour is, Pat. I was shooting from a long way away and up a bit higher.
August 13th, 2015
Great winter sea shot. Finlay always brings a smile to my face. Watching wildlife of any kind and like lots of others the sound of the sea is beautiful.
August 13th, 2015
I thought they looked like a little row of beach huts but perhaps you don't have those in NZ like we do? @gijsje
August 13th, 2015
you have captured the power of the sea maggie
August 13th, 2015
Very nice capture of the shore and sea. I love your 3 things every day. Not sure I could come up with three different things every single day, but it's so fun to read yours!
August 13th, 2015
The sound of waves bring that smile to my face :) Always love it and can almost hear these from here.
August 14th, 2015
@happypat No, don't have beach huts that I am aware of. Probably somebody's back yard hut!
August 14th, 2015
I love the sounds of the ocean too and I don't have to be at the beach to go swimming- I'd rather walk along the shore and collect shells anyway. Awesome shot of the waves' power. Have a safe and warm trip!
August 14th, 2015
@olivetreeann Thanks Ann, from waves to pistons - (motorbikes, of course!)
August 14th, 2015
Nice composition
August 14th, 2015
I love the sound of waves too. Nice shot - I can almost hear them!
August 14th, 2015
It's a great shot Maggiemae but it looks so cold and uninviting!
August 14th, 2015
Music brings a smile, Maggie? My favourite music makes me cry! The sea looks like it is about to take those cliffs too.
August 14th, 2015
Pretty shot. I, too, love the hear the waves crashing against the rocks when the sea is rough. My first smile is when I wake up in the morning. Thank you very much for your kind comments on my picture of yesterday. I don't deserve them when I see so many wonderful pictures from all my 365 friends (and that includes you, of course).
August 14th, 2015
@sangwann You do deserve them Dione! Yours are always so composed!
August 14th, 2015
@yrhenwr Some music like boy's choirs, bring tears to my eyes, David! Silly when other music brings an immediate smile!
August 14th, 2015
@thistle Only cold and uninviting if you want to swim Joyce! I like the wild and challenging part that sea plays in our lives!
August 14th, 2015
@nickspicsnz - they come rolling in fast then go thump! Such force!
August 14th, 2015
crashing surf is one of the best sounds i know.
August 14th, 2015
The composition of this capture is great..love the wave action. I too love the sound of waves crashing. It is mesmerizing. Love the peak of the roof tops over the knoll.
August 14th, 2015
.... can feel that chill. Looks invigorating, well captured!
August 14th, 2015
Lovely shoreline with the power of the waves, nicely captured.
August 14th, 2015
The sea certainly looks quite wild, but a lovely colour.
August 14th, 2015
Cool shot!
August 14th, 2015
nice composition
August 14th, 2015
this is super Maggie fab composition
August 14th, 2015
wonderful sea scene, cool composition
August 14th, 2015
Ooh this definitely has a cold feel to it. Love the colour of the sea.
August 14th, 2015
Nice capture, I can almost hear the calling of the ocean.
August 15th, 2015
It does look bleak and wintry. Music I like does bring a smile to my face; but most of all, being able to spend as much time as I like outdoors with my camera has that effect.
August 15th, 2015
The ocean always makes me happy, but what really brings a smile to my face is my cat!! :-))))
August 15th, 2015
@panthora thats because you love her so much!
August 15th, 2015
Looks like a very rough coast... Great photo
August 15th, 2015
@deliad You are quite right, Delia - half the sand has gone here as well as most of the steps down on to the beach with these wild waves!
August 15th, 2015
Very powerful shot xx
August 16th, 2015
this is beautiful. May I suggest it would have been even more if you had, to my opinion, cropped a little bit more a focus on the wave?
August 18th, 2015
@parisouailleurs Thanks for your opinion, Helene - I might go back to my photo and see what it looks like!
August 18th, 2015
I too love the sound of waves, and watching them too. What usually makes me smile is watching dogs - they are such fun animals with great personalities. I like this composition that you have done - it sets the whole scene.
August 19th, 2015
Wonderful photo :)
August 19th, 2015
@maggiemae I would try to focus only on the wood and the wave. please tag me if you upload the picture, I don't have a lot of time to look at 365 and may miss it.
