Took off from Hicks Bay on the East Coast of NZ to carry on down the north and unknown coast - to us. We found it a wonderful road to travel in - curves and wonderful views, overhanging pohutukawa trees, clear streams and closed up Maori churches all along the way!
At one wild coast spot there was an historic church and I used this cherub in the old cemetery behind it as a photograph against the pohutukawa trees and the background of rough seas.
Three good things:
1. A cooked breakfast made sure we were not looking for cafes along this route - as there weren’t any!
2. The roar of the waves at our evening destination was constant and relaxing.
3. when you have forgotten that you have the camera on 10 sec delay …. and
you have the hiccups -the photo doesn’t work!
You have brought back so many memories of this journey. Your mention of churches reminded me we had seen a small white church out on a stretch of coast right up to the sea. I wonder if this is it. We didn't go near it but I remember seeing it as we drove east towards the top end of this part of NZ. The sea & small cherub, what an amazing place to lay your remains.
I have done number 3 to many times (without the hiccups)
