Another territory to explore in Wanganui (without an “h’) and there was a recent history here of flooding that was evident. The huge river had exploded with a downpour this year and flood banks had proved ineffective. Roads had been eroded and trees had been swept away, mud was evident in so many places. We followed a trail that we found on the net and consequently found it was 20 years out of date!
Three good things:
1. Although we didn’t find anything on this trail we did enjoy the road trip. At one point I said, this is ridiculous, there is nothing here - so we did a Uturn. And found an historic estate - another story!
2. I went down 100 steps and decided this was good for my knees. However there was this lady (not youthful) running up the steps, down again then up again! Whooo eeh!
3. Whitebait was beautifully cooked as in an omelette but we both thought there was no real whitebait flavour! However we do have a memory - thank goodness!
4. Just noticed my Cape Maria shot is on TT! So pleased!
Great shot - there's loads to do in W(h)anganui, believe it or not. Plenty of galleries and they have a very strong music scene as well if that's your "thing"...not many decent places to eat though...and you'd be a brave person to run up those stairs...
I liked Wanganui too......that great river burst its banks......that would be frightening! Love the paddle steamer! So colourful Maggimae.....you could be in New Orleans!
