One result

A funny day of experimentation! I did want to find out what focus stacking was. The only thing I stacked was the groceries in the cupboard!
I did try one photo completely unfocused and layered a focused one one on top. This is the result. Same scene different focus. Some odd results!

I can't focus on different points in one scene without moving my camera.

The date says 18th but I took the unfocused scene on the 20th.

Three good things:
1. John on his penicillin is not doing well - feels sick, now got a temperature! Good thing is Google where I find out what is actually dangerous. Ok at the moment.
2. My sister drove down from north just for a cup of coffee and a chat! How nice!
3. David Attenborough’s programmes have the best music!
Very dramatic Maggie. Hope your husband improves soon.

Has a 3D feel to it. I hope John is feeling better soon.

At least you are trying which i more than I have done! This is a good result too ! Is that a wee little photobomber bug or part of the prcessing on the petal on the right?
December 20th, 2015
A very interesting result - rose in mourning perhaps. This is way beyond my ken.
December 20th, 2015
@grammyn It is a wee bug that I didn't know was there, Katy! I zoomed from the window on to this rose and really couldn't see it clearly.

Very nice... Always appreciate all your comments!!!! Happy Shooting!!!

There is something quite appealing about this rose except I would love to get rid of the black mouldy bits !! But Maggiemae ,I admire your constant persistent in achieving something I have not even tried !
Hope John will soon get better and I hope he is not allergic to penicillin ( I am ! )

I like the light on this. Hope your hubbie gets better soon
December 20th, 2015
@beryl The 'black mouldy' bits arrived with my layering, Beryl. I don't know why. The rose itself is perfect.
December 20th, 2015
What you've done is way beyond my ability to grasp, but the result is a lovely image. Hope John feels better soon.
December 20th, 2015
Well I think it's terrific maggiemae....I have never heard of anybody doing anything like this before! Younarecway beyond me...I have been passed big time! The petals look very thin & I feel I could just reach out & break one off! Poor John, antibiotics make you feel, lousy sometimes!
December 20th, 2015
@happypat thank you for your kind words, Pat! You are supposed to have Photoshop to do this and I am working at doing it with only the apps available to me! I don't do PS.

Bep
Lovely image. Very clever! Hope John feels better soon.
December 20th, 2015
nice one maggie
December 20th, 2015
Your trying, that's more than I do. I tried Photoshop but it's too complicated. except for the black rim the rose looks lovely.
I know how John feels. antibiotics have done it to me many times. hope he feels better soon.
December 20th, 2015
@bruni Those black rims appeared when I layered the blurred photo behind the rose photo, Bruni! Thanks for your concern! Pleased really to know it happens - the nausea!
December 20th, 2015
You certainly did get an interesting effects from it! Hope John feels better soon.
December 20th, 2015
Looks like a candle seering the edge of the rose, don't think this hybrid will catch on! Great effect though.
December 21st, 2015
@jaffacakes Thats a good name, Geraldine - hybrid! And I agree with you - however its one step towards another step!

It really good to experiment otherwise we keep doing the same old thing over and over. Nicely done!
December 21st, 2015
not sure i even know what it is. get well john it's christmas!
December 21st, 2015
I love your experiments! Poor John is going through the wars! Hope he gets better soon - he needs to get better for Christmas!
December 21st, 2015
Surreal and effective! Hope John gets the bug behind him quickly.
December 21st, 2015
@taffy Its not a bug, thank goodness, Taffy - he's on anti biotics and they make him nauseus. I have to remind him he's 81 and can't leap about on rocks the way he used to!
December 21st, 2015
There's something other-worldly about this image, and makes you want to look closer. I didn't realize focus stacking required PS -- haven't tried it yet but seems now I won't because I haven't learned PS. Tell John we all wish him better health soon!
December 21st, 2015
@jyokota I understand about taking different focuses within the same frame which I've tried to do but its the 'stacking' that I feel might be necessary! But , gosh, who cares!
December 21st, 2015
haha, I love you description.
December 21st, 2015
Hope John is feeling better. The heat here makes one feeling sick to. Not a drop of rain. Had a huge sand storm yesterday afternoon again. Awful!
December 21st, 2015
Hahaha what a laugh you gave me with your stacking story - I'm still laughing as I write this. Hope John is well for Christmas. A gorgeous shot this is.
December 21st, 2015
Nice shot
December 21st, 2015
love the transparent edges effect. Hope health returns for all in time for Christmas.
December 21st, 2015
This is great!
December 21st, 2015
Lovely processing and a pretty flower.
December 21st, 2015
Very interesting effect for focus stacking. This is still something I need to try.
December 22nd, 2015
Never heard of stacking but if this is the result it's good
December 22nd, 2015
well, good for you for trying, as i won't even try it even if you wring my neck. that's methinks a difficult process and i may not have the patience to do it. but you got a fabulous resulting image, and as sally @salza commented, it does have a 3D-ish effect. aces to you, young lady.
December 22nd, 2015
ps: john's well now, isn't he? hope so!
December 22nd, 2015
I love the fact that you are trying for this one!! I have read about and seen some wonderful focus stacked images, but I am just not in the mood to work on one with the holidays and thousands of photos from the trip waiting to be edited! Too bad as it sounds like the end results would definitely be worth the effort! I am sure you will get it soon, and will be creating some amazing images!
