A funeral was today’s event and although sad it was as expected a great turn out to value her input in peoples lives.
I’m sure you will recognise a table like this to allow friends and family to enjoy each other’s company at a funeral. I bought the ‘rolls’ on the blue plate - cream cheese, ginger and chocolate bits.
Three good things:
1 The egg sandwiches were the best with crisp lettuce.
2. Some American travellers came to talk to John about his father - he had lots to tell - but what do you do when you have heard it so many times before? I chose 365.
3. Sold 7 books today! Can’t believe it but only got 6 left!
A sad day indeed, but as you say a good opportunity for memories to be shared...Funerals: the only time they throw a decent party for you and you can't be there!
Well done on the book sakes maggiemae I want to buy one when I come over so save one for me please. My favourites are egg sandwiches & I can see them there on the right. The best way to eat at a buffet then you can move around & talk. We had one of our old traveling cattle food salesmen call today......I chose not to listen & do something else.....I have heard farming talk many times before!
@happypat I've just sent 4 books to Lancaster, Pat where my step sister lives - her father was married to my mother and they - sister and her husband, said they liked to read about all the scenes in England that they know. My favourite is egg sandwiches too!
Funerals are always sad, but it is good to have the get together after and share stories of the one who has died. Your book sounds to be very interesting I am not surprised it is selling well. Well done.
It is nice to see friends and family gathering to share memories... the table looks delicious, too. Congrats on your continued success for your books sales.
Wonderful that there was a nice turnout; sharing the memories is a good way to find peace in the midst of loss. Also, congratulations on your book sales ...Books are also a wonderful way to honor and treasure good memories!
@taffy She would have been very active at these sort of functions! However she was in poor health and had a fatal accident so its nice to do for her what she would have done for others!
@yaorenliu Yes, most people put their goodies on a plastic plate that could be put in the rubbish.... but I thought presentation..! And if there were any left over - I would tip them on to the next dish and take my plate away! As it turned out there was only one left!
Glad your book sales are going well. Nice photo of the food brought and those there to remember her. I do like that everyone brought something as that is not common from what I have been around. I like it and gathering like this as well.
A sad day for you and John, but the sale of the books must have boosted your morale. Here in Malta, we consider this 'reception' after a funeral a bit funny. Our custom is to attend the church service, give our condolence to the relatives outside the church and everybody goes his own way - close family members would follow the hearse and attend the burial. This habit could be because of the short distances we have to travel to attend the funeral service and back home.
This is like the funeral spreads we have at home in Ireland and most people have a good time, even though it is sad, as they reminisce about the good times with the deceased and often laughter is heard. Well done on selling the books
I think eating at funerals is such a good thing. (don't have time but could probably write a novel on that subject... aren't you glad I have to go to work?)
Lovely to have something nice like that table of food at a sad event :)
