Brecon was our 3rd destination and we stayed at the Wellington where my mother stayed in 1929. Her diaries say about the trip from Dolgellau: "magnificent scenery along the valley of the Rhiedol, just as if we were flying above the land. ....then the Devil's Bridge - the river being hurled against, round and out the Devils Punch Bowl, through a narrow rocky chasm and away" We visited this site and were amazed at the geography. There was an ice-cream house where Mum "enjoyed an ice' but we didn't.
A short while later we horrifyingly discovered that grandson Jude's medicine had been left behind in the Royal Ship. As we had two cars, Kerry had a 4 hour journey back to retrieve it but we carried on to Brecon .
Here Paul, SIL, and John are wandering through this old town.
@jokristina The person there would not be interested really - the place is now taken over by a chain but previously was privately owned till the 1990's and they would have been interested!
i recognized mr. cool right away! this is a wonderful shot of this alleyway with the two figures framing the door of the building across. fantastic, maggiemae. aces!
A lovely glimpse along a clean and tidy alleyway -- love the narrative and it takes me back to that area of Wales , The name Devil's Bridge construed an magical or even an evil place to me as a child and I remember going down all those stone steps to see the whirlpool in the river -- magical !
A superior composition with leading lines, nice framing, great light and shadows, and of course the people. Sorry to hear about the medicine and the sacrifice required to retrieve it but glad it was retrievable.
The photo is interesting - the story utterly fascinating and your mother's writing seems to be as whimsical as your own. Thank you for sharing this journey with us!
Lovely shot. Sounds like both you are having quite a trip. I like that you area able to find the places your mother visited and things have not changed too much.
