My attempt at taking the background away went through many phases. Quite successful but would be more pleased if I had a young and beautiful model! Instead I’ve got wrinkles and hooded eyes in the only model that agreed to sit for me!
Can be seen on the black which may improve things....
Three good things;
1. I learnt a lot, downloaded an app that wouldn’t go away and I had to shout for help! It was hiding in my ‘extensions’ files!
2. After a night where I worried that John wasn’t sleeping well, and of course, I didn’t, it turned out nothing to worry about except his heart rhythm isn’t right yet. I think I’ll dress up as a ghost and frighten him in the middle of the night!
3. Another important connection for the caravan ( to electricity - 240volts) arrived by courier today.
You have missed the pluses in your shot. Amazing light and shadow giving great structure to the face and the eyes are well seen with catchlight too. What's not to like!
don't say that about your model. she's my friend! :-) lighting is dark but i suppose that's what you were going for but the rim lighting you achieved is fantastic. aces, maggiemae. aces!
@summerfield The rim lighting was actually an accident, Vikki - one of many I had while making this shot! Another was falling off the couch where i was posing!
Without doubt the most beautiful and artful self-portrait (I can't bring myself to say "selfie") I have seen on these pages. And don't knock wrinkles -- I've got you waaaay beat in that department!
@irisr The original photo was taken in front of a very bright window looking out on to our garden Jacqui so it was a challenge to change! Done through textures.
This is beautiful Maggie. It shows all that is good about getting older. There is a gentle kindness and wisdom showing through. Something you could never capture in a portrait of a younger person.
Make sure she signs a model release form for you. I love the portrait, and I love your approach to squeezing the best out of every moment, and push yourself and to try new things! X
