The full moon known as this year's Harvest Moon will rise and will be shaded by a subtle type of lunar eclipse for some skywatchers in Africa, Asia and Australia.
The Earth’s shadow will darken the moon during the lunar eclipse at nightfall on Friday September 16 2016.
The eclipse gets it name from the outer part of the Earth’s shadow, which is known as the penumbra. It was below the horizon in the Southern Hemisphere.
Well, whatever - I got a reasonable moon shot! I would imagine that this would look good on the Black!
Three good things;
1. Posted a photo on FB of the award that Johns father got (posthumously). It is crystal and needed light reflection to make it look good! Will go on here shortly!
2. Working with white balance is just as tricky as with ISO!.
3. Do appreciate all the great comments that my friends want to put on my postings! Its very easy to just click the ‘fav’ and move on… but still I appreciate those too!
Great info about the Harvest moon & you got a great shot of it peeping through the cloud. I woke up at 2.30am & looked through our bedroom window. The moon was there in its full glory, so bright it hurt my eyes...I went back to bed!
@maggiemae well I think it's a little better than just a shot for the day. The moon is the moon is a moon but you have created a little bit of interest by including the clouds.
I almost went out to take a moon shot last night but I had to get up at 6 AM and I really didn't want to be over tired! So hopefully I'll have another chance tonight. Great shot!
@maggiemae We're on the 17th now- at 9:50 pm, but if the sky is clear, I should be able to get an almost full moon tonight if I feel like going out in my pjs!
@maggiemae (o: It won't be the first time I go out in my pjs to get a shot (and it won't be my last!). I've even thrown a heavy coat on with snow boots and gone outside in the dead of winter. I'm sure the neighbors think I'm nuts!
I thought it suppose to be a full moon as it is full moon festival when Chinese eat mooncakes under the moon, Not sure how it works when the moon is eclipsed, half the mooncake, I guess.
