Wee cottage in the wild by maggiemae

Wee cottage in the wild

The nights at these camping places are surprisingly quiet. Last night all alone in the field there were thousands of stars in the night sky. Didn’t get up for a photo though. Onwards to the Blossom Festival and over the mountains past a little tiny shepherds hut in the hills that has been well kept and I get a photo each time.
Three good things:
1 The camping ground here in Clyde is just by the swiftly flowing and completely silent Clutha River - went walking and was accompanied by little fantails.
2. A major attraction here are the “Round The Clock’ races. There is a clock face high on the surrounding mountains and teams and individuals race up to it and round then back down. We were placed just right to see it all - in comfort
3. Plugged in just when our computers were going flat. A lot of things are firsts in this van and so far we have met the challenges!
Lovely view the cottage provides a nice focal point :) fav

@rjb71 Yes, easy to put the focus on the wee hut and have DOF organised to get the mountains! Thanks Richard

@dide Thanks Diane - thought you would know about this wee gem! There will be lots of flowery floats to catch today!

What a fabulous landscape with the snowclad mountains in the background and that little jewel of a shepherds hut just sitting there facing the sun . A lovely composition and capture . That quiet night sleep must have doe the trick -- big fav

@beryl Its always a lovely scene, coming over the mountains and seeing more, Beryl. Its a very steep hill!

Superb, Maggiemae!

Lovely scene. I have to say I envy you and your travels just a bit!

Wonder what this has been used for. Surely not surrounded by much of anything except the beauty of the landscape.

@aglennc In the 19th century, Anita it was a shepherds hut. Very basic - heaven knows where the toilet was - none inside which was virtually just one room!

@janemartin I understand totally, Jane - feel a bit guilty having such freedom and fun!

Great rural shot
September 22nd, 2017
Such an interesting scene with mountains and trees, hills and valleys and the beginnings of spring time color everywhere
September 22nd, 2017
@grammyn Its very arid here and the only green comes from irrigation and top dressing, Katy
September 22nd, 2017
@maggiemae what is top dressing?
September 22nd, 2017
@maggiemae Fascinating. I have cousins who raised sheep in northeastern Wyoming in the early 1900s. Instead of cabins, they had what they called a sheep wagon...... Everything from a cook stove to a bed. It might have been the first "mpotoorhome" but I''m sure they didn't call it an RV, however -- recreational vehicle.

It a beautiful wee cottage and I have this photo framed and on my lounge wall... made me do a double take when I was scrolling through this morning .. look forward to seeing shots of the blossom festival..

@grammyn Top Dressing ... means putting on fertilizer usually in this hilly country by aeroplane.. http://365project.org/julzmaioro/365/2017-05-22
We do it on our farm as it is pretty steep and the job is done in a few hours as opposed to trucks or tractor that would take day's..
September 22nd, 2017
@julzmaioro @grammyn Thanks Julia - one was working over the nearby hills yesterday1
September 22nd, 2017
@julzmaioro thanks Julia. We may have this in the states too. I know they do it with insecticides and after having just looked it up apparently they do it with fertilizer too. In the United States we call it cropdusting.

What a gorgeous spot and glad you are having a good experience with your van. We have a 19' 1999 van RV that is still new to us and we always are delighted when it takes us someplace without any problems

September 23rd, 2017
Super capture of this little cottage - looks quite isolated but it must be amazing to wake up in a place like this.
September 23rd, 2017
@s4sayer I would think slightly bigger, Margo. But doesn't have central heating and a shower
September 23rd, 2017
@flowerfairyann If it had all the best things - like a decent stove, toilet etc, would make a lovely holiday home! It does have a fireplace!
