Book Club today in a modern and very beautifully designed home. We are so lucky to enjoy our club members’ homes! And this afternoon tea may spread more into our waistlines!
The painting in the background was done by the lady on the back left, in the blue. We never knew she could paint like this. Another of our members is an artist in glass creations.
Three good things:
1. We don’t discuss one book but listen to other’s recent journey into literary pleasures. A couple of examples:
Shirley Jackson.. author
The Lottery
The Haunting of Hill House
High Country Woman
Iris Scott- author - A NZ High Country book.
2. I thought I scrubbed up well for this afternoon with friends - longer hair and I’d used a straightener.
3. Forgot the bookI was reading, forgot the author, forgot to bring it with me - but then I’m not a good speaker so glad to get out of it!
@30pics4jackiesdiamond That's a nice thing to say, Jackie - two of our members have been really sick after serious operations, another one's husband died several months ago and another ones husband died a year ago!
You're not there though...looked really closely as I got the impression you were in the shot. You actually talk about the books, a proper book club not an excuse to drink gin then! I love seeing all your friends enjoying themselves together!
What a totally civilized afternoon! And laughing about your forgetting the book title. I find when reading books on Kindle and not seeing covers, I never remember the book I'm reading and often forget the authors since I so rarely see their names.
@maggiemae That relieves me because I didn't think you could have changed that much in such a short time and I didn't see anyone that looked even remotely like you!
Your club members are all lovely. I’m sure you look great with curly hair too! My book club is really a book review club, we have book reviewers who come and present books they’ve read. I like that because then if I want to go buy the book I will, but if it doesn’t suit me I haven’t spent money on it. I’m sure I’ve told you this, but I love your tortoise shell glass frames.
@louannwarren That's virtually what we do too.
You can make notes of the ones you want to read. We also put books into the bin that can be shared with no cost!
Looks like a great friendly bunch of people. Always good to get the insight into new books from people. A cuppa, a chat and sandwiches and cakes sounds like a great way to spend the afternoon.
Such a lovely looking group. We do pretty much the same at our BC, except that we are 10 and do it in the evening. Each one in turn hosts and has to buy the books. We also each only talk about the book we have just read. That sometimes takes longer than intended ;-)
@ludwigsdiana I think that would be very social but a bit of a challenge and comparison of views. You would not just be able to say - I thought it was rot"?
@brennieb I don't blame you - what with scones, jam and cream, chocolate truffles, club sandwiches and date and walnut cake, not to mention great coffee and tea!
Is it okay to show your photo to my book club?

Sorry Gloria - that's not me - I'm behind the camera lens!
