This is a story about Bertie the Blackbird - probably Bertie III.
In our last property and the ones before, we had a blackbird that sang its self out on Sundays! He was always hopping around. But we have been here 9 years, and no blackbirds or thrushes!
Three Good Things:
1. Since I’ve been putting lots of food out, Bertie has arrived and is singing his territory to our delight. Also a thrush - they don’t like bread but I put out leftovers from our plates.
2. The kowhai here is dripping gold all over the lawns! We have about 11 kowhai here - most have self seeded. Not all have a great flowering.
3. John slept in till 10am! He was awake during the night but I let him sleep curious to see how long till he woke up naturally! Of course, as we do with sweethearts who are over 80, I looked to see often if his shape was breathing!
Wonderful capture of the kowhai.
Love your #3. My sweetheart (who is over 70) slept in till 10.45 am; and yes I looked several times to see if everything was ok...
Wonderful #3GT Maggie! I laughed but of course you are dead right! I sometimes wish my sweetheart who is 81 would have a lie in until after 6am! He gets up very early but tends to of off lots during the day! So glad Bertie has come to your garden at last! The golden rain is stunning!
@happypat Some men friends get up frightfully early! Don't' think they will ever change! Its nice that we both enjoy a snooze before waking properly! I love the blackbird song!
A beautiful golden tree with a lovely background & I am so happy for you the Blackbird is back & serenading you both....Love #3 as I often do the same...I am the one up early in the morning.😊
What a lovely photo and story. David is always up early in the morning but he is having a bit of a Nanna nap while watching television as i write this. He often fades to black in the evening. I guess he isnt too impressed with the Invictus games closing ceremony
