On the steep slopes of the hill opposite our camping ground, a fascinating exercise is happening! A heavy piece of machinery grabs a tree, saws it through and as it comes crashing down holds it by the end so it falls in the right place. Then across on the next ridge another piece of machinery sends a type of square box with claws over on flying fox affair, grabs the log and carries it back to where they trim and cut it in lengths.
Three good things:
1. The workers start early and finish at 4. We don't have to start anything, even an argument!
2. Rain all day so there was no walking. The internet purchase was pathetic and took so long we gave up and used our mobile option.
3. Getting more room in our small fridge.
This is how our pine forests look. 27 trucks a day pass our house hauling logs to Gladstone for export. The hills are now bare like this with no replanting taking place.
Gives me the shivers that even the steepest ridge can be clear felled relatively easily. Hoping they replant as well.
Just read that you've taken and posted on the same day for 8years. Thats one heck of an achievement. Big congratulations to you
I always struggle with trees being cut down- but at least this operation is responsible and replants. This scene somewhat reminds me of our Smoky Mountains which as the same kind of fog conditions. Nice shot.
Beautiful capture. A scene that you see quite common in the mountains - not the machinery, perhaps. The cutting down of trees and their replacement with new ones is always an ongoing project.
