Boleen by mcsiegle

Boleen

I'm in Wisconsin and wasn't planning to post any photos all week. But the gathering hasn't started yet. I'll be tenting but the past two days I've been at my friends's house & the WiFi access has tempted me to peek at the wonderful images being posted here. And now the mad minute word has sucked me into taking a photo with this iPod and posting it. The word: falcate, roughly meaning sickle shaped. As it happens my friends have this wonderful blade for cutting herbs, called a boleen. So here's my mad minute offering. I'll fill in the the missing days when I get home. I'm definitely using the camera.
I like the grain of the wood these rather interesting tools are placed on, nice shot.

Glad you posted. This is an interesting tool, very interesting photo with the two shapes side by side.

Beautiful shot of something that's scaring me a bit.

Well, that perfectly matches the Mad Minute word Falcate!

Cool and almost looks like a shadow at first glance.

...should we be worried that this was your last photo???

Fascinating tool and the sheath is awesome - a touch of foreboding about this!

Please forgive my combining my replies to all of you into one. It's gonna take me a while to catch up with comments and replies (and posting photos to fill in what I missed while gone!) @twistergirl @eileenw @kittikat It IS kind of a scary looking tool, isn't it? @twistergirl :-) No worries. The blade went back in its sheath immediately after being photographed. @sbolden Scott, I'm glad you saw that. I can't take full credit for it, though. A friend (not the one that owns the boleen) suggested putting the sheath there beside it as a kind of shadow to the blade. @omabluebird Thanks, it did make a much more interesting photo than just the boleen by itself. @denidouble @eileenw Thanks. It was sitting on a rock that's part of a retaining wall outside -- not wood. @espyetta @valpak @kareenking Yes, definitely lucky/serendipitous. An interesting word -- I was about to settle for a shot of a crescent moon art piece hanging on their wall, when I spied this tool. Woo hoo! @gozoinklings It's not large, but larger than something you'd put in your pocket. Looks like you could hang it from your belt. I didn't ask my friends for a demonstration.
