My get pushed partner, Debbie @deborah63 gave me this challenge: "to do a large group portrait or to take a picture that is the meaning of 'love' to you."
No large group portrait, but I knew that I wanted to show my son Dan with his cat, Nelo. He loves her fiercely, worries when she is sick, and takes care of her as a father would a daughter. I initially intended to have him pose holding her, but after trying that on the front porch with junky results, I found myself sitting across from them on Christmas Day, in the evening, trying to figure out what combination of aperture, shutter speed, and ISO was needed. I think "Learning Curve" would be an appropriate term here. He's lying on the couch and playing a video game, and she's curled up on his lap. The pictures I took when his hand was resting on her were junk. Way too dark.
Long story, but I will tell it anyway. I once sat beside a man on a plane who worked for a funeral business. He said that they had done lengthy interviews with people to find out what type of services the crematorium should offer. He said that people would talk quite calmly about their relatives who had passed away, but when he asked questions about pets they all cried.

Unfortunately I failed to deliver on your challenge to me. I had major camera malfunction on xmas day. No memory card in the camera and my phone froze ... so no photos for me for the past 3 days. Boo hoo.
@deborah63 oh, that is really too bad. I hope it can be repaired and not cost a fortune to do so. Don't worry about the challenge. If you do someday produce an image that fits, tag me if you think of it.
