I should use the tripod more. I just hate setting it up and fiddling with the screw-on mount to attach the camera. I’d like to have one of the kind that quickly attaches and releases with a piece that stays on the camera. The Minolta SLR hasn’t worked in decades. I don’t know why I still have it. I’d have to send it away to find out if it even could still be fixed. We haven’t had a camera shop in Manhattan for a long, long, long time. And the one camera shop in Topeka closed a couple years back. I bought it when Dan was a toddler and got some good photos with it. It’s a wonder I did, as I never really learned much about the ins and outs of camera settings and it was entirely manual—no automatic features whatsoever.
These are old technology but probably still could work. I have a newer tripod, but still don't like to take it anywhere. One of the legs won't stay put, but the camera has a screw on plate that snaps into the top. I like that part a lot.
@wakelys Possibly some sentimental attachment, but more likely I just hate to think of it as junk, but at the same time am too lazy and/or stingy to want to spend the time and money finding out if it can be fixed. I honestly at this point can't remember in what way it doesn't work. Doesn't take pictures at all? Renders worthless images? Maybe I ought to buy a roll of film...? I assume the Vivitar flash unit is fine. There are other cameras in there I don't use. There's another cheaper film camera that I really ought to give away. I've just gotten spoiled by digital. There is also the Nikon bridge camera that I really loved using, but the lens had gotten dirty and there's no place I can send it that will clean it, since it doesn't have a removeable lens.
@summerfield right now, just a prop, but is it worth the drawer space for that? I REALLY need to get rid of stuff I'm not using. Thanks for the comment.
@randystreat One of the legs on mine also will let go if If I don't watch it. I have stuck something on that joint catch to keep it from doing that, but still...Definitely would use it at least some more if I didn't have to deal with the screw mount. Ugh. Thanks!
@mcsiegle - if it still works, there are a lot of photographists who want to try the film bit although sometimes they want it for really cheap or almost free. i have one that was rarely used with all the bells and whistles from the early 80's. my niece put it on ebay twelve years ago and we got conflicting responses - a few said it's worth nothing but will pay something for it, but a japanese woman also responded saying to keep it as film was coming back. i also have a couple of films in the fridge which i hope i don't get to cook one of these days! haha!
