Day 27 Kalgoorlie to home.
Boondi, between Coolgardie and Southern Cross, was one of numerous rock catchments in the Great Western Woodlands developed for railway water supplies in the days of steam engines. Eventually the advent of diesel locomotives and construction of a new line to the north saw an end to the days when steam trains rolled to a stop at Boondi to refill their water tanks. The water catchment system at Boondi consists of perimeter walls and rock-lined channels that direct rainfall runoff into a dam or storage reservoir.
We have driven past this area many times and didn't realise what a lovely spot it was. It is now earmarked as a possible campsite for future trips.
It was another cold, drizzly day, so we decided to push on to home.
We've had a fabulous trip, but I'm looking forward to sleeping my own bed tonight, rather than the camper.
Tomorrow the clean up starts.
I hope that you have all enjoyed seeing some of our journey.
@marshwader Thanks Maddie, it was lovely to see this area in the rain. The moss and lichens were beautiful. It would be a very different scene in the baking sun.
Lovely texture, great shot.
