Dawson's Burrowing Bee DSC_7777

These fascinating bees are only found in Western Australia. The adults are only around from July to September when there forage plants are in bloom. For the rest of the year they exist as dormant larvae in underground brood cells.
The females shelter in their burrows overnight and thermals roost on vegetation.
