@dulciknit They should be leaving some time quite soon but with this warm weather they may be staying a little longer and feeding more to double their weight. They will fly as far as Mexico and Central America, sometimes flying 19-22 hours at a time if they cross the Gulf of Mexico. I imagine when they take more of a land route, their distances are less at a time.
Wonderful shot. I love the bright light and the bejeweled little hummer getting his nectar. I thought mine had gone but I saw him yesterday on the buddleia.
I see they migrate as far as New Mexico but what sort of distances do they fly?
