A First for the Season

This Great Spangled Fritillary is the first one I've found of this species this season - last year they were all over the yard. Maybe there's hope more will appear.
Such beautiful light. Is this early morning? Love the color combination and composition.

Gorgeous shot of this beauty, Milanie. I too hope that the butterflies are just taking their time getting there this season. I have yet to see a butterfly in our area, but when I think about it they have never been prolific around here.

@falcon11 Actually it was just after noon - definitely not the best time to shoot - but you take what you can get I've learned and not be picky! :)

Beautiful butterfly (I like the ladybug peeking out from under the leaf too). I hope there are more coming. I have seen more Tiger Swallowtails the last two days...maybe they knew the nasty weather was coming and waited.

You have such a wonderful variety of butterflies! Another lovely shot with the bonus of a little photo-bomber.

Beautiful Milanie! Except for the 2 I posted earlier, I haven't seen any butterflies to speak of! I planted all sorts of butterfly plants too - no skippers either. It's nice to see one here. Lovely shot!

@tara11 Hang in there - saw my first skippers today and my first sulphur in the backyard - also a black swallowtail that wouldn't land - but at least he passed through! Maybe there's hope yet.

@milaniet I hope so!
