Check this out large. This is an American Snout - a member of the brushfoot butterfly family - and that "snout" is definitely long! Such an odd looking butterfly on this rattlesnake master.
Wow! What a picture! The butterfly stands out so boldly against all the whites of the rest of the image. I had to laugh because this guy reminds me of Scrat, the character in the opening act of the Disney movie, Ice Age. It's the snout that inspired that thought!
Thanks so much for your enthusiastic comment on my Coneflower Center pic. There were a couple that said they felt the image was moving, which I had thought myself but figured I was just nuts. Then I looked at it large, on black as was suggested and you seconded, and definitely could feel the motion. Weird!
I really like the contrast of the dark colours of the butterfly with the pale greens in the flowerhead and background. His snout's quite something and so is that eye!
@kathiecb Not sure about how common - I know this is the first I've noticed - maybe saw one last year as I remember something about that strange snout but didn't get a real good look. Yes, that is the eye - weird, isn't it!

It's a fav for me.
