Trying to Slow the Bluejay Down! by milaniet

Trying to Slow the Bluejay Down!

My husband came up with the idea of making a peanut "necklace" to tie around the tree (well, we bungied the back sides together) to see if we could get the Blue Jay to stay put long enough to get a decent shot. He drilled a small hole through the peanuts and I threaded them on a string. Had a snowy - more sleet than snow - day today and Mr. Jay was quite pleased to find his stash.
Beautiful capture. Fav.

What a wonderful idea you had and it paid off big time. Love the shadow that falls over the Bluejay which gives him even more color hues....You captured him beautifully, you have wonderful focus, clarity and the snow on the tree looks like super big snowflakes.....Your husband and you deserve a big hand! FAV

Nice shot and clever idea. Your Blue Jays are prettier than the California Scrub Jays we have out here.

We do get blue jays but haven't seen one in our yard in a long time. I like the peanut "necklace" idea. fav

Great idea. Those blue jays swipe up all the peanuts the moment I put them out. Funny though, they bury them in the leaves in the back yard and then the squirrels come along and find them.

What a great idea! The only problem here is that the squirrels would get to them before the blue jays. Wonderful colors and textures .... a fav shot!

What a great idea and how clever so you could get this awesome photo!!! Our blue jays stay in the back woods and don't come to the feeders It's always a race to see who gets the food, the squirrels, the chipmunk, or all the different birds!!! I would LOVE to capture a blue jay!!! They are such beautiful birds and you really got a great shot of this one!!! Wonderful clarity and details!! Love it! FAV!

Those buggers are fast and they stay in the tops of the trees most of the time, so they are hard to catch. That's a good idea. I throw my egg shells out for them.
