I really wasn't going to do a collage of these because I wanted you to be able to see them up close - I've never seen "ice needles" before - they form underground and force their way to the surface. They can be quite destructive. Had just read about them yesterday in a newsletter from Mt. Magazine State Park talking about how they had caused the destruction of the amphitheater there several years ago. They were in about a quarter-mile area of softer dirt (from those 60 degree afternoons we've had) and I was fascinated with the many different shapes they took. Reminded me of being in a cave.
Great shot.fav I was familiar with frosts in early life on a dairy farm where the water was frozen in the pipes etc and i really don,t miss the frosts !!!
Fascinating, I have never heard or seen anything like this. Great collage showing the different shapes they can form. Interesting info also that bring the pictures alive.
