Still not seeing any butterflies locally (in my yard!) but did find this Question Mark down on the sand bar by the river. They're not real big, but are rather interesting looking on the rocks.
Haha, Milanie, I am so glad I did a bit of research before asking a dumb question. From your narrative, I wasn't sure if you really knew what this butterfly was called, or whether they was a question mark over it's identity. It's okay I know now.
Anyway it's a lovely shot, of to me, a previously unheard of butterfly.
Polygonia interrogationis (Fabricius): Polygonia: many angles; interrogationis: questions. is a common, medium-sized butterfly of wooded areas and suburbs that is often, but not always, associated with moist areas. With its wings folded, it resembles a dead leaf and is highly cryptic... Thus Question Mark... maybe?
Anyway it's a lovely shot, of to me, a previously unheard of butterfly.
Wonderful capture.
