The One with the Weird Name

Better known as the Red Spotted Purple Butterfly - that one always throws me and I have to look him up each time. Does have a pretty iridescent look to those wings.

The scientists tasked with naming this species had evidently run out of lovely names, they just stated the facts, nothing elegant about that name for sure. He is gorgeous and I love him poised on the last daisy. Fav.

I have struggled with that name also. It just doesn't seem to fit the butterfly. IT should be the blue spotted black.
