One thing we have learned recently is that Ruby-throated Hummingbirds are very unsociable. Adults of this species are not social, other than during courtship (which lasts a few minutes). Males depart immediately after the reproductive act and females providing all parental care. I think I read someplace that said there are times the male will build a nest and the female will build her own. It's not unusual to see them at a feeder and get buzzed by another hummingbird. It's like they like to torment each other.
