Cabot Trail; Cape Breton Highlands National Park
Ok, the Cabot Trail (road) is not really off the beaten path, and not the most remote road of Nova Scotia. But it is not crowded either and it is the starting point for many great hikes.
The trail makes a nearly 300 kilometer loop around a sizeable chunk of Nova Scotia, passing through the Cape Breton Highlands National Park at its northernmost point. The National Park a 950-square-kilometer, flat-topped plateau cut by deep river valleys. This wilderness is home to moose, black bears, and bald eagles. Mostly, the Cabot Trail skirts the edges of the park, at times clinging to steep ocean side cliffs.
