Kidston Island Lighthouse, on Kidston Island, located in the Bras d'Or lakes, in Baddeck, Nova Scotia
Baddeck was Alexander Graham Bell’s beloved summer home. He was so compelled by Cape Breton’s beauty, that he believed the area outrivaled any other place on earth. Quote from Bell: "I have travelled the globe. I have seen the Canadian and American Rockies, the Andes and the Alps and the highlands of Scotland, but for simple beauty, Cape Breton outrivals them all."
It’s also the place where many of his scientific inventions were made and for example the the first controlled powered flight of an aircraft of the British Empire took place. The Silver Dart, a first of Dr. Bell's aircraft, took off from the frozen Baddeck Bay on February 23th, 1909.
So Baddeck is also the place with the Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site. The site includes the Alexander Graham Bell Museum, featuring artefacts from the Bell family's and also memorabilia associated with Bell's experiments, including: the original hull of a hydrofoil boat that set the world speed record here in Baddeck of over 70 MPH in 1919; and the AEA Silver Dart.
(Hubby M. was extremely excited about this museum.)
aghhh...I was going to repost my note and spell your name correctly! At least you received it! Must add publically that your photo is a recognizable beauty, and anyone coming to Nova Scotia really ought to visit the Alexander Graham Bell Museum! Your information is excellent!
@Weezilou Dear Louise & Ken, thanks for your kind words. I must have missintepreted you sometime ago, when we both commented on a picture featuring this lovely lighthouse. Sorry for placing you in my mind in a flase part of NS. But form my point of view, all over the Atlantic, it is still fairly close to Baddeck. *smile*
@mona65 We've just returned from a 2-day road trip to Guysborough, just south of Cape Breton. The fall color is amazing this year! 1000 photos in two days...no time for comments, but must get to posting some of the beauty!
