2016-02-03 in search of the secret key,...

Old dusty books -

Today I managed to get some pics with a nice u-shaped histogram. But somehow a balanced histogram does not meet my perception of an interesting picture. So I go in the main album with the one I like better.

Here you can find a similar picture with a u-shaped histogram. (kind-of) http://365project.org/mona65/2015-plan-b-alb/2016-02-03

Flash of red February: Details and an extremely interesting abstract from Ann H. LeFevre you can find here: http://365project.org/discuss/themes-competitions/27173/flash-of-red-february-week-1
I am glad you found a key. I have to agree with you, I like this picture more then the one with glasses. It apears warmer, and real. I like this very much!

I like this one much better than the one with the u-shaped histogram... stick to what you think looks good :-)

I too like this one better. I like how you can see in this shot the page lines of the books. :)

Awesome shot and processing

I've given up on the U shaped histogram. This is a great photo, I prefer it to the other one too.

I like this one better too Mona - it has a richer feel, more depth. Fav

Super lighting!

I like the lighting on this one best, Mona. And I always love old keys and old books. Great image. Fav!

The items are wonderful but it is the lighting that keeps me studying this.

Another fav!

Wonderful light and shade and composition...fav

I wouldn't worry about the histogram - I would go by your aesthetic feeling, which seems to never fail. Beautiful picture.

Great shot Mona!

I like this picture much better than the other--more detail, more interesting light and shadow. Fav for this one.

I like how the shell is tucked in there, as if it was keeping the key.
February 4th, 2016
Definitely prefer the softer light on this one. A really lovely image.

This is the one... simply superb... Fav!

Excellent shot - like the lighting and contrasts.

Awesome that you experimented with the u-shaped histogram! I love to see the difference and I agree, I prefer this shot. The detail is better, the contrast more controlled and it makes things clearer, less shadowy. Just a beautiful shot. :)

Well done and you are absolutely right. This is the winner
February 4th, 2016
Fabulous. Love the contrast between the light and dark, plus you have made a interesting shot. Fav.

This is beautiful!

Thank you for the comparison! I, too, struggle with achieving and then liking the u-shaped histogram. I kind of wish I could unread the author's words about it being ideal! I like both of your images; but I much prefer this image with its more intense light, shadow, and texture. Your words and images helped me to learn more today. I'm grateful.

Dramatic light, love it!

Beautifully composed and shot. The histogram is history.
February 5th, 2016
Reminds me of Harry Potter.

That works very well! Sometime extreme contrast is what you want, and of course sometimes it isn't. There is a narrative here; maybe books and learning is the key to being educated and leading a more interesting and creative life! But the presence of the snail, means this quest for knowledge happens at a slow pace! Yes, I've enjoyed this image!

I love your composition.
