Last year Epilepsy Queensland turned 40... and Mum and I were invited to the celebrations. While I was there, Wally Lewis made an appearance and told us his story about coming out of the shadows with Epilepsy. And at the end of the evening, I hung around with everyone else and scored myself an autograph oh my program. I wish I could have bought his book; but it was out of my price range that night.
Wally Lewis is a footy legend here in Australia; and now he reads the sports news and attends the State of Origin games at the sidelines every year after he retired.
He had a been hiding his disability for a long time until some years ago when he had a seizure live on air on the news and one of the other anchorpeople had to take over his work until the ad-break. After that, he decided it was time he took care of his Epilepsy and made sure that didn't happen again. So, he had a very delicate operation performed and he's been really going well since.
This operation has helped a lot of people with their seizures where medication has failed. For me, I wasn't a candidate for the operation, but the doctors have figured out which pills worked on the best doses.
Wally has written a book about his experiences and he's become a patron for Epilepsy Queensland as well.
Writer, poet, artist and prolific reader.... that's me.
I'm a collector of books, vinyls, coin purses and strange handbags... that's me too.
Otherwise, I love...
Very nice shot :)
