guilty with an explanation

i went for an early morning bike ride and brought my camera, but not a tripod... i really liked the reflection of the trees in the water, but couldn't manage to prop my camera up properly for a long exposure...

so i had to bump up the ISO and of course couldn't smooth out the water... so - i'm PRETENDING to take a picture of the rowers which is why i needed a higher shutter speed...

and then of course this would be better in colour, but the river was muddy-looking and nothing i did in post could cure that... hence black and white...

so... uhm... yeah... ;D
I don't believe a word of it. ;)

That's your story..but are you stickin' to it? I think this makes a STUNNING b&w

Beautiful b&w

Cool shot!

I hate to find myself in need of a tripod in low light! You can't always carry one though. What ya gonna do? Yours was a great solution though and you got the shot!

This is wonderful.

i love your work here, calm and there's too many points of interests.. great work!

:D

Shows the delicate boat movement through the water beautifully! Bump up the ISO, eh?

Come on! Nirvana.

I like the processing on this! Very pretty!

a fabulous result for a "so . . . uhm . . . yeah."!! you managed to make this a beautiful photo.
June 26th, 2013
I think it's beautiful. I love the tones and overall scene.

Yadda yadda yadda - Brilliant!

@lbluejaye8
I love Laurie's comment! Perfect response...as this is a fantastic image if you look at it without preconceptions of what you'd had in mind!
June 26th, 2013
Very cool all the same. I think it works really well in b&w.
June 26th, 2013
@taffy Thanks! That's what popped into my head - enough with the explanation, just let us be dazzled! :)
June 26th, 2013
Pretty but the rowers get lost in there. I would have left them out and gone for the simple reflection... which is really beautiful!
June 26th, 2013
Or taken it one second earlier to get the rowers in front of that black space...
June 26th, 2013
Lovely reflections
June 26th, 2013
Great monotone :)
June 26th, 2013
admire this pic!
June 26th, 2013
Great shot! Well done.
June 26th, 2013
Hey! It looks good to me so stop overthinking things! ;o)
June 26th, 2013
lol cool thought process behind this picture :) Look on the bright side - you know now how & where & when to get that perfect shot.
June 26th, 2013
I love the story. It looks great in b&w and it needs the rowers. It's a bit different to your usual style.
June 26th, 2013
Great shot and whilst the obvious would be colour, the B&W works really well making the shot much more interesting and intriguing. Love it
June 26th, 2013
The illusive perfect shot - this still looks pretty gorgeous to me
June 26th, 2013
The reflection of the rowers I'm not looking at is lovely. :)
June 26th, 2013
Great reflections, I like the rowers though :)
June 26th, 2013
I love explanations. Also rationalizations. :) Fairly smooth water already though, so I really think it works.
June 26th, 2013
@amyspada exactly... on both counts... but as @janim says - i now have an idea where there may be a decent photo op for long exposure :)
June 27th, 2013
hmm... dunno what your talking about, this is awesome
June 27th, 2013
There is something idyllic about looking at rowing that i am not interested in doing though
June 29th, 2013
Fabulous tones and reflections

Excuses, excuses. ;-) LOL
It may not by what you desired, but it's still beautiful. I really like how the reflections of the trees could be mistaken for reflections of clouds.
