Somewhere on the discussion board a challenge was posted to shoot a selfless selfie. Now that's a selfie I can get into!!!!! So here it is- my perspective on me, and a song that describes my life perfectly.
Tapestry
I am a thread in the tapestry,
I have the Master's hand on me,
And then He weaves me carefully,
Making textures as He goes.
Each of us part of the great design,
You've got your part and I've got mine,
All of our lives are intertwined,
As the fabric starts to grow.
Through thick and thin,
The Master weaves us in.
Young and old, we're the colors of the rainbow.
Our lives are short and long,
But together we hold strong,
In this everlasting tapestry.
Taking the lovely and the plain,
All of our laughter and our pain,
Crossing them back and forth again,
The pattern can be seen.
And when we're finished we will be,
A perfectly woven tapestry,
A beautiful new creation scene,
For the universe to see.
And every thread is known by name,
Not a single thread the same,
As we're woven on this plane,
In a tapestry of love.
Through thick and thin,
The Master weaves us in.
Young and old, we're the colors of the rainbow,
Our lives are short and long,
But together we hold strong,
In this everlasting tapestry.
Words and music by Teri DeSario
This is a weaving which I created in my high school days. The pattern is called Cross and Wheel and all the colors came from natural dyestuffs. I dyed all the wool myself and the created this tapestry on a Four Harness Table Loom.
What a gift you have and how wonderful that all materials are natural. They fit so perfectly with your accompanying song. I'm off to look for it on YouTube.
Beautifully captured, Ann. Love how you actually made this yourself . . and even dyed the wool. Lovely words in the song . . it reminds me about a story once told by Corrie ten Boom in which she related the work to God and belief.
@allie912 Thanks Allison! You'll be able to find it- that's where I got the lyrics today! Had to double check my memory!
@dmariewms Thanks Marie! I have moved on to other crafting outlets but my daughter-in-law has all my weaving things to set up when she's ready to start. @kerristephens Thank you Kerri! I so appreciate your faithful comments!
@karenann Thank you Karenann! Yes- made it myself way back when, and have passed the torch to my daughter-in-law. But this was my first weaving and I've always got it hanging somewhere.
Thank you one and all. There is a funny family story connected with this wall hanging too. When I first made it, I was in high school, so my Mom hung it in our living room. But when I got married, I took it down and was going to bring it to our new apartment. My mother was so upset! She wanted it to stay at the house! I had made another one especially for her, but she wanted this one too! Of course, it came with me and she was gracious about it, but I always knew she wished I'd bring it back! Poor Mom!
how i wish i can create things like this, but alas, i can't. this is very nice and the song that you chose to go with this post is equally nice and quite moving. thank you, ann.
@bkbinthecity Thank you bkb! @summerfield Thank you Summerfield- each one of us has something special and unique to offer. I always enjoy the perspective and quick wit of your writing.
@potsbypam Thank you Pam- the loom really does most of the work- but the weaver does have to watch that the edges don't curve inward and set up all the strings- so it's a team effort so to speak. @daveanajao Thanks Dave!
