My departure for Michigan was a bit later than expected, but it was a beautiful sunny day and I was on my way to meet the newest addition to our family- Micah Christopher- so my spirits were high. But about 150 miles into my trip I heard a loud "POP!!" and felt the car wobble in a strange way and when the initial shock wore off my brain registered the fact that I had a flat tire. Actually what I had was a shredded tire! It looked like someone had taken a knife to it. I pulled over on the left hand shoulder because it was the closest but it wasn't the best place to stop. I looked ahead to see an SUV pulled over and a very nice man coming to my assistance. He guided me to the right side of the road and asked me if I'd like him to put the spare on! Wow!! In the end it was smarter to call AAA (a spare wouldn't make it to Michigan!) and get my car towed to a tire place. So here's "Little Red Ru 2", i.e. my car, getting a tow. Three hours and two (yes two!) tires later I was back on the road and on my way only to have the speedometer die on me when I crossed into Ohio. Boy, this was not the trip I planned! But I did manage to arrive safely. And holding Micah makes it all worth it!
@summerfield Thanks Vikki! Yes, it was an interesting trip out to say the least! Hopefully the trip home will be quite uneventful. In the meantime, all this adventure will become a dim memory after our meet-up! @kerristephens Thank you Kerri!
Great idea to show us your journey by mirrors! " Its all done with mirrors!" Sounds as if you were by yourself and it is so good to have help then. A wise decision to get two new tires! Contrats to your little Mikah's parents!
@maggiemae Thanks Maggie! Yes- I came out by myself and usually it does not bother me at all. I have a cell phone and I have road service- both came in handy on this trip!! The second tire came about because the tow truck man noticed another tire that was worn bare. He told me he could replace the one, but in another 100 miles that one would blow and I'd have to stop all over again. That was all I needed to hear! I was back on the phone to Jeff with the "good" news- and the second tire was ok'd. Will pass your well wishes on to the family.
poor you Ann what an unlucky start to your journey at least someone was kind enough to help you get your tyre sorted out and you managed to get back safe from your journey
Thank you one and all! Yes, I'm safe and sound and will be here for a week. The speedometer won't be fixed for the trip home but you can still drive safely by gauging your speed against the other drivers. So I should be alright.
