Out on the Ice by olivetreeann

Out on the Ice

This is something we don't see too often. Due to our recent lengthy deep freeze, the Delaware River has frozen over and large chunks of ice have piled up within its banks. And they are not small! Just compare them to the person out there climbing on them!
Nice image to show scale of the ice.

I did not see the person right away. Great photo.

@ggshearron Thank you Glover! I wouldn't recommend walking on this- especially since it's starting to soften after a few warmer days, but it was a great photo opp from the shoreline!

I like the layers in this, from snow to the snow covered brush beyond.
January 22nd, 2018
I would not be walking on it.

Fantastic

The person really does aid in portraying the size of the ice chunks. It just looks far too cold for my liking.

Wow
January 22nd, 2018
Crikey, this looks so bleak.

He doesn't seem preoccupied that they would break under his weight and that he might fall in the freezing water. You took a wonderful capture to show us the weather conditions there.
January 22nd, 2018
Wow! Our snow and ice comes and goes usually very quickly like yesterday. It's great to have the person there to show the sizes.
January 22nd, 2018
Wow, lots of ice and snow there. Great capture.

Thisnis amazing Ann. great shot and helpful to have the man in shot to show how huge the ice is
January 22nd, 2018
Those are really big chunks!
January 22nd, 2018
Amazing. I had to go back and enlarge the photo to see the man.
January 22nd, 2018
My goodness, an amazing scene. Brrrr!
January 22nd, 2018
Crikey! That really does look cold...! Is it B&W or naturally monochrome?
January 22nd, 2018
Kas
The b&w really highlights the coldness of the area.

A beautiful winter scene and nice use of the red colour.
( that city is on the coast side on a halve hour drive, and inversters love to develop it with more huge buildings. Now there is a law that stops it )
January 22nd, 2018
Yikes! Very cold! Stay safe out there!
January 22nd, 2018
love this one with all the glossy snow.
January 22nd, 2018
Wow, it's gotten pretty cold!! Cool (pun intended) shot of it all!
January 23rd, 2018
not my cup of tea
January 23rd, 2018
Great snow textures! I like the red of the backpack too.
I'd love some of that snow here - we're getting temperatures of 30-40C (86-104F) for the rest of this week. Bleugh!

Awesome shot
January 23rd, 2018
So interesting to see. Wonderful shot.
January 23rd, 2018
Fabulous black & white
January 23rd, 2018
Makes for a great b&w, we have icebergs forming on our shoreline, with the freeze and thaw that we are experiencing this January!

Hopefully this will not cause the problems some notherly places have when the ice melts in their rivers. An interesting look. The person really provides perspective for the size of those blocks.

Thank you so much one and all for the views, comments and fav!

@littleconnie You would have made a smart choice! I am not on the ice, I used a zoom to get this.

@filsie65 Yes, and yes- It is a naturally monochrome scene which I converted to black and white and then painted the color back in on the person so they would stand out more.

@alia_801 It's too bad we couldn't exchange a couple of degrees with one another!

@radiogirl This is probably more familiar to you than it is to us. It's very rare that we have such cold weather for so long.

@randystreat There could be some flooding, but the Delaware is pretty deep so for the time being it should be ok.

Thank you again for taking a look at this shot- I'm a little worn out tonight, so after catching up on your views and comments I'll be heading to bed- but I shall return to look at your pics tomorrow.
