Lunch by olivetreeann

Lunch

"From 11:00 to 12:00 we bide our time and then we eat lunch." The Lethargarians explain to Milo how they spend their days doing absolutely nothing.

Since I knew I'd be photographing my lunch today, I fixed myself an extra special one. On the menu: homemade chicken soup with matzah balls, an egg salad sandwhich, a nectarine and a glass of apple cider. And yes, it was good! I even used my "pretty dishes" to make the table look warm and welcoming. You know, I really should do that more often!
Looks good

It is a lovely lunch. I cheated, I just had a cookie.

@dmariewms I usually grab whatever odd leftovers are in the frig and eat them out of the microwave containers. Not that nice for a photo, so today I went for the good stuff!

@karenann Well, you are welcome to come anytime you'd like to visit Eastern PA Karenann! We live near the Delaware Water Gap, so it's not a quick hop skip and jump from MN, but it is possible! And an added bonus- we're also not too far from Lancaster PA where they sell lots of Amish quilts!!

Wonderful photo and why do we always put our 'pretty dishes' in the cupboard for a special occassion? We shouldn't have to wait until the guests come for dinner to enjoy them!

@mrssmith Thanks Carla- I would love to have you over for lunch!
@httpgeffed Thanks Colleen- it was good!
@karenann My younger son lives in Tecumseh and coaches at Adrian College. I'd show it to you on the hand, but I don't have a picture!
@digitalrn Thanks Rick!
@summerfield Thank you Summerfield- the centerpiece is a collection of Autumn things I basically just toss in there! Nothing fancy with me. And I actually do use these dishes on occasion- like when I've made something special for dinner. They're sort of a cross between everyday dishes and something a little nicer. I was thinking of selling them at a yard sale before we moved here, but a friend talked me out of it (there's only 2 place settings). I'm glad she did! And you are welcome to visit anytime!
@nicolecampbell Thanks Nicole! I do use these dishes-see above.

I love the tones; very inviting.

Looks like a great lunch! Maybe we should all do the challenge with a cookbook next month :)
October 19th, 2011
@alia_801 - now that would be a challenge! We would all be creating fantastic food just to get the photo.
October 19th, 2011
@annaruth Thanks Anna!
@alia_801 Thanks Alia- that sounds like it would be fun! I don't know if I could do 30 days of completely new recipes- but I do enjoy cooking and baking. I can see it now- the 365 Project Cook Book: photographic recipes from all around the world!
@nicolecampbell You're right Nicole- it would be fun!

Oh, Ann ... what a lovely table setting. Great idea! I'm one of these stand up and grab a bite types. We used to have formal night dinners every Saturday, and I even thought of a cookbook idea but never did anything. Need to get back to that!! Yum! Matza Ball soup--is it homemade?
October 19th, 2011
@cimes1 Thanks Carole- mostly. The stock, veggies, meat, etc. all from scratch. The matzah balls came in chicken stock and I added some additional organic chicken stock too. So it's a 75/25 split. (o:
October 19th, 2011
@olivetreeann So you buy the matzah balls already in the chicken styock? Where do you get it?
October 19th, 2011
@cimes1 At the supermarket in the same aisle with the Mexican and Chinese food. It's usually mixed in with gefelte fish and other kosher items.

Ann, this is gorgeous and warm. I love the presentation.

@changingtides Thank you Allie! Those plaid placemats are some of my favorites! I always save them for fall.
