In the Hebrew language the future is always behind you and the past is always ahead. The past is ahead of you because you can see what has happened and the futue is behind you because you can't see it at all. When I first learned this, it totally shifted my paradigm of understanding time. At first it seemed odd, but soon it made a lot of sense. And although I would love to pick up a pair of binoculars to see what my future holds, I can't, so there's no use worrying about it either! I can do my best to plan ahead, but if I've learned anything over the years it's that it's better to bend with the winds of change than to fight them. So, for now, I'll just use the binoculars to enjoy the visitors at my bird feeder and leave the future in God's hands.
Wow! That's interesting.....and it really goes along with my thoughts and picture for today. I like how you ended this...and it's just a good reminder for me. Thank you for saying these words today. I needed to hear them.
Oh my gosh, Ann. This is fabulous and what a comment. I didn't know that about the Jewish perspective on the past and the future. I love this because it's such a "live for today" attitude! Wonderful. Thanks for telling us, Ann.
@mrssmith Thank you Carla- I'm so glad it was meaningful to you. I have been so tired lately that when I go to write I keep falling asleep at the keyboard! Today I just gave up and took a nap, so I wasn't really sure what I'd written! I liked what you wrote today as well- and I really liked the shot. The future and the past can be real "buggers". You can't change the one and you don't know the other. When I get stuck on that I really know I just need to take a deep breath and let God take care of the rest. I struggle with this a lot. But I know I'm not alone. I'm glad these words were helpful. @bruni Thank you Bruni! @kerristephens Thanks Kerri! It's the Inverted and Thermal effects with "gooify" thrown on top! @karenann Thanks Karenann. It's basically the viewpoint of OT Scriptures but we don't always "see" it in the English. And yes- live for today is certainly a great way to live. So much more focused and certainly more enjoyable! And yes- that's me.
What you say is so true, and your photo is a great to go along with your commentary. We can so easily get wrapped up in the future, and worry ourselves sick, and it is such a waste of our time to do so.
@bruni Thank you Bruni!
