Red Door, Ithica, New York

I have discovered that there is some symbolism to the red doors I keep seeing on churches. The most popular meaning is that it reminds people of the blood of Christ as they enter the church. I remember from my undergrad days that there is a lot of symbolism jam-packed in religious architecture. For now, the red doors are always so eye-catching that I find myself compelled to keep photographing them! This one was on an Episcopal Church in Ithica, NY.

Massive upload tonight to catch up with what I missed while Leigh was here. Don't feel obligated to comment on them all- just choose the ones that catch your eye!
that's a great red door

@annied @cruiser @kerristephens @wendyfrost @grammyn @777margo @frappa77 @randystreat @altadc

thank you Annie, Chris, Kerri, Wendy, Katy, Margo, Francesca, Kathy, and Alta! And thank you so much for all the favs that landed this on the PP! I tried something new with the post-processing on this one- working on different sections at a time and loved the way I was able to bring out more texture in the bricks and vibrancy in the colors. So getting to the PP with this was icing on the cake! Thanks again!

Interesting to read about the meanings, re church colour etc. Love the composition with the same door and window shape pulling them together.

@jennywren Thank you Jen! I also loved how bright the door appeared against the white bricks.
