On Tuesday I had a medical appointment in Newcastle and although I took my camera with me, I didn't have much opportunity to take photos.
I did manage to capture this photo of one of the coal loaders filling up a bulk carrier with coal though as we drove past at Kooragang Island. I was pretty lucky not to get any telegraph poles or cars in the picture.
@happypat Australia is one of the worlds largest suppliers of coal. 70% exported to Eastern Asia and 30% to power stations. Power stations are now moving away from coal though.
Australia is the largest exporter of metallurgical coal (used for making steel) and the second largest exporter of thermal coal ( for power stations).
@johnfalconer They are magnificent machines. A good friend of ours was in hard rock mining, living all over the world. He has a fabulous mineral collection. I don't think he likes coal mines. ha ha
