Gun Emplacement and Mrs Murphy's Gap by onewing

Gun Emplacement and Mrs Murphy's Gap

I have finally got round to checking out the photos taken on our boat trip out to Fingal Island last Wednesday.

On our way we passed the WW2 gun emplacement at Tomaree Headland and a rock formation called Mrs Murphy's Gap.

We don't get to see this pov from land.
Wonderful capture of these unique scenes, it sure is amazingly high.

great POV from the boat. Mrs Murphy must have quite a tale associated with her...

@johnfalconer @robz Mrs Murphy was a local fisherman's wife in the late 1800s. She was a popular girl, especially when her husband was away fishing. Say no more.

@ludwigsdiana @jamibann @Dawn @nigelrogers @casablanca @joansmor @briaan @wakelys @pcoulson @pdulis @pusspup @pattyblue @busylady @pamalama @mittens @carolmw @chimfa @montserrat @carole_sandford @pyrrhula Thanks. There are a couple of gun emplacements on the headland but this one can only be photographed like this from the water. I have no idea how they managed to erect it in such a precarious spot.

The rock cliffs are quite high. The gunners could see a good distance off.

Looks like it would be difficult to get to and from. Interesting historical site.

You can see why this spot was chosen for defense- sounds like a critical spot to watch the water. And of course, the entertainment sounds accommodating too (o;
