Who Remembers Stamp Machines?

Following in from yesterday's telephones through the ages collage here is a photo of a stamp machine in the museum at Morpeth.

Who remembers stamp machines? I think this machine was originally in the old Post Office building at Morpeth which is now used as a Vet Clinic.

Posting early today because I am out this afternoon and then out for dinner this evening with friends.

We finally have some rain. Only 5 mm so far but hopefully more on the way.

Yes indeed I do Babs, the post office first started installing them in 1908 and they continued until being phased out in 1980 in the UK:)

Oh I had forgotten about these. Those were the days when a stamp costed just a few pennies rather than an absolute fortune that they are today.

Very interesting vintage machine. We always bought the stamps we needed from the nearest post office or stationery. So this is completely new to me.

They were cheaper too. Yesterday I paid £5 for four stamps. And the delivery service has not improved!!!

It seems that some of you remember them and I remember them from my childhood in the UK. I have seen them in Australia outside old post offices but I don't think they were in use when we arrived here in 1990.

@illinilass Don't know how old this one is but it must have been prior to decimalisation in 1966 in Australia because it has been changed to 2c probably from 2 pence.

I'm not sure we had them in the town I grew up in, but that was quite a bit of time ago, and I probably wasn't paying attention to how my mother bought stamps when we went to the post office. Good shot.
