2nd November 2015 - Droplets1

This morning there was a very thick dense fog which has not lifted all day. The garden was very wet and the many spiders webs were covered with droplets. A perfect chance to try out focus stacking. Unfortunately I only have a very old version of PS and I was unable to align all the layers. This is just one of the shots I took. I need a new computer and updated software!!

I have been quite poorly with infected sinuses since my return from Devon and today is the first day I have felt able to take photos. Thank goodness I finally feel much better!!

How lovely to see this on the PP! Thanks for getting it there!
Fave Pam....I love a good foggy shot.......this cobweb is so beautiful!

Beautiful shot, it looks like a diamond cradle. Hope you feel better soon.

Amazing how many droplets there are on this and it doesn't snap. Great shot.

Cool shot.

Who needs focus stacking, this is great Pam. Glad to hear you're feeling a bit better.

@paulaw I wanted to try to do it for my Mentoring group as that's our current topic. Good to learn a new technique but I am not sure I can be bothered with all the processing needed - even if my computer would let me do it. Not sure how much I would gain in clarity. It's a shame I cannot do a comparison.

Can't the 5D Mark III do a version of this in camera?
November 2nd, 2015
@paulaw I don't know - I will check it out. That would be a great saving of processing time!! There are so many features of my new-ish camera that I haven't even discovered!! Better get the book out and have a read!! LOL!!

If you press the menu button top left then scroll along until the third little square along is highlighted the bottom option is HDR Mode, press set then the top item is Adjust den range, select that then you can choose varying degrees of different exposure. Then when you have focussed the shot it will take three pics and put them together in the camera. Hope that makes some sense!!! Works quite well!

*Adjust dyn range (stupid auto correct!!!)
November 3rd, 2015
@paulaw I will try this out tomorrow . Thanks so much Paula!

Fantastic shot! Glad you're feeling better!
November 3rd, 2015
@paulaw @pamknowler Pam, great to have tried this and figured out what you need! Paula, is HDR's process going to allow focus stacking, or will it blend the three shots into one (rather than selecting elements of each one using layers).
November 3rd, 2015
@taffy Guessing it just blends the three into one 😢
November 3rd, 2015
This looks gorgeous, did you try the HDR mode on your camera?
November 3rd, 2015
@pixiemac No I haven't tried HDR in camera yet but I would think that would just increase/decrease the exposure not the focus distances. I tried to merge some of my shots using Photomatix - see today's upload - not successful!!
November 3rd, 2015
Ah, now I know what you are trying to do. I agree, not HDR. When I did focus stacking I did it in Photoshop :)

Love the spider webs covered in dew like this.

Just a gorgeous picture, fav! I'm sorry about the sinus problem--I used to get bad sinus headaches and I know how painful they can be. I'm so glad you are feeling better now.

This is beautiful, and I don't think you needed the focus stacking at all! Then, again, what do I know since I have never tried it! FAV for this fabulous shot that looks like a bowl of jewels!!

The web of droplets is so intricate! Love the little hanging tendrils!
