Padlock Bridge by pamknowler

Padlock Bridge

The pedestrian bridge in Bakewell which is covered in padlocks. As I walked across the thought occurred to me that these padlocks must have added to the weight the bridge was carrying and I hoped we wouldn't end up in the fast flowing water!! I have such romantic thoughts!! LOL!!

A shot from last weeks quick trip up to Derbyshire.

Many thanks for your lovely comments on George - very much appreciated!!
Wow...I don't think there is room for another love lock! Fav.

colourful and it does look weighty. Nice POV.

I cannot understand this fad! Like you I often think about the weight added to the structure!

I saw perhaps on television the padlocks being removed from a bridge (I think it was in Paris) because of the weight. I like your photo and pov!

Love locks cause lots of problems here. They really weigh down the railings on bridges and have to be cut off eventually and the railings replaced.

It is becoming an issue everywhere these days! It's manic in Paris, the lovelock habit! Nicely seen and captured and glad you got over the other side without incident!

Lovely image, the waterfall seems to be duplicated by a waterfall of love locks

I've wondered the same thing re the weight. But they do make a good image.

So interesting! :)

I think some bridges around the world have banned the padlocks because of the extra weight strain. A nice photo of them all.

@888rachel is correct, quite a few places have cut off all the padlocks and banned the practice. The fad seems rather pointless to me.

I hate these padlocks! They really spoil bridges in my view. Makes an interesting image in any case.
