This is my grandfather Edward Morris who survived the war but never completely regained his health as he had inhaled mustard gas. My sister's only memory is of him inhaling using a pump. He died in 1951 just after I was born.
We don't know what regiment he was in and would love to find out more about him but don't know where to start. The trouble was we never asked the right questions and they never wanted to talk about it.
It felt right to share his photo today Remembrance Day.
What a handsome man he was. Was this WWI? My grandfather also served and his name was Richard Morris! There are some wonderful websites around but even with my grandfather's service number we have only found out the very basis information.
Nice photo. Isn't there anyone within the military that can point you in the right direction? Surely there must be records, even if you don't have them.
You'd be surprised what you'd find from searching British Military Records on line. The insignias on his uniform may help. @eyesmile I hear ancestry.com is good as well. I think I saw an ad that they've got free military record access for a limited time.
Hope you find some neat information
@888rachel Hi Pam. My wife has recently completed some research for a friend that involved searching UK military records. I'll get her to have a look and see what she can find that may get you started. She is itching for some more research to do. She is having a Nanna Nap at present.
